Albuquerque, New Mexico

The trip to Albuquerque was filled with awesome views, food, and conversation! Thanks to Mom and Bob for hosting and joining us on adventures galore! I had a great time, and the pics below to prove it!

Red Rock in New Mexico!

Jemez Falls. Gorgeous!

Almost to the top of the climb at Tent Rocks! Do you see why they're called Tent Rocks?

Guitar Hero

What a game. Alyse, Jeff and I had some fun the other night when I drove through Austin and played Guitar Hero. It's freaking hilarious. I consider myself a musically inclined person, but unfortunately that doesn't mean I'm a knowledgeable or anywhere-near-talented person about rock. So yeah. Take the classical musician, the former musician, and Jeff-THE-Guitar-Hero and you get a rather interesting game. It reminds me of when I was in Breckenridge with the Orenders and Andrew and I played the generic version of "Dance Dance Revolution". Again, I totally sucked that up. Another one? The same sort of dancing game, but with a "Dancing with the Stars" theme. Katy, you would have died. Bruno actually critiques you! I did have better luck with that one. Could have been the coca cola with the help of my good friend Jack. Together, they make everyone more talented.

So Much Going On!

It's a roller coaster ride.

Downer? The biological father called. He's thinking of moving. Looks like he's heading South. Pray for me. Moving on...

Upper? AWESOME weekend with the friends on the river in New Braunfels! Enjoyed the river, the drinks, and the company. Fantastic music in church today. We had an amazing soloist who made the All-State Choir this past year and has an incredibly mature, rich alto sound. She was fantastic today! Our Choir did a great job backing her up. You should listen to it.

Upper again??? Father's Day! Bob is the best dad a girl could have. Can I get a witness, or 3, Heidi, Stacy and Alyse?! How he manages to keep up with 4 daughters I'll never know. And our pets! What a guy! Happy Father's Day, Bob!

My Scion tC

I got a car. And not just any car, a car that met and surpassed everything I wanted in a car. And it's NEW. I've never had a new car! It has that new car smell, look, and feel! Name suggestions? "Camry" has been offered up as a tribute to my first car (MY first car, not the one my parents said, hey! drive this!). She's purple-ish, and I love her. And she's a 5-Speed!!!!! Do you know how much fun I'm having??? OK, I'm done with the unnecessary punctuation. Maybe not just yet... I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT MY CAR!!!!!

Done. With Several Things.

What a week. School is out, and I am ready for summer! But the last couple of days have been a rollercoaster. Thursday morning was the last day with kids, and my AP approached me asking about 3 bins and a set of golf clubs outside the front entrance of East. I was not aware of their existence there, but sure enough, there was my name on one of the bins in handwriting I am quite familiar with. My belongings from elementary school and my clubs are in the entrance of my place of work, for all to see. And for almost 24 hours, seeing as someone wasn't considerate enough to alert ANYone to their being there. Then there's the issue of another box I was contacted about 2 weeks ago. I met up with a mutual friend, delivering a box filled with anything to do with the two of us. But how does it look when I'm receiving emails regarding one box, then 3 and some golf clubs show up at my school??? I can tell you I was wary of picking up the one. But it's done. I have what I think is all of my possessions back IN my possession. Hopefully there are no more surprises.

There's A Light...

8 days of school left! My concert went just fine, and I'm looking forward to next year! My administration is fantastic, my friends are great, and it's time to kick back and enjoy the summer mornings with Coda. So who's ready to play???

Summer's Comin'

Summer is on it's way. My final concert of the year is this Friday, and then it's time to put the room in order for next year. And next year, the 8th graders will be all mine. Meaning I will have had them for the full 3 years they've been at East. The first time I can say I've been the only Choir teacher the graduating kids have had. I am VERY excited about that! Hopefully they can pull themselves together to improve on this year! I'm so proud of my students this year. They have worked so hard to come so far from where their program used to be.

So I am excited to take a break from school, work on Mary Kay, and just enjoy the time away from teaching... until the fall, that is. =) One of my counterparts pointed out that they handed out the registration cards to the kids early this year, making them choose their electives when the performing arts programs were in their worst time of the year - U.I.L. Then they pointed out to the kids that they handed us our contracts at the same time. Let me tell you how many times the thought runs through your head about whether you are really going to sign that document or not. LOL. Of course, after this year, with the team I've got and the family at East that's been formed, I'm not going anywhere.

So I just had to share my enjoyment of the end of the year, and that I actually am looking forward to next fall.

San Antonio!

My choirs took a trip to San Antonio last weekend to compete and then go to Sea World! We did really well in our performance, earning a Superior ranking from all 3 judges, and we came in runner-up in class! West came in first, which was fantastic for them - they sounded so great!

Sea World was a blast - all my kiddos had fun, and I even got to ride the Steel Eel and the Great White. Shamu was awesome, and if you get to see their acrobatic show, Viva, with the Beluga whales and porpoises (porpi?), do it. Shamu's "Believe" is still the number 1 show to see, but Viva was amazing.

So I'm back after a chaotic time getting home (migraine landed me in the ER the morning we were leaving), but all is over and well. Can't wait to start planning next year's trip. I must be crazy. =)

Saturday Night...

... and I'm finally feeling motivated! At 10:40 PM. Bad timing. But laundry's getting done, and I've paid my bills and taken Coda out on a brief walk. How 'bout them apples?!?! Tomorrow I get to sing in church (I love my director - he makes singing in a church choir so much fun again!!!), take Coda to a new dog park with another choir director, his wife, and their two dogs (yay for doggie playdates!), and hopefully play some tennis! If not, I'll still have some time to relax or go work out or even go up to school (DREAD) to get some things done. Really, it's not a bad thing.

Speaking of school... yesterday was a sad day for the CISD family. Two of our '07 graduates died Thursday night/early Friday morning. The incidents were not related. Please pray for the families of those kids (they were 18) and for the CISD family. One was the daughter of one of our teachers, so we are all taking it hard. Thanks.
The news article is here.

My How We've Grown

I just finished looking at the wedding pictures that Heidi posted, and I can not get over the fact that my little sisters are so grown up. I feel as though you go through life and you have these ideas of how "old" you are or other people are based on their age. At age 25 you should be one way. Age 30, slightly more mature and adult-esque. And so on and so forth. But going through the ages, I still feel like I'm 25. Not that I am that far from it, but I don't see how turning 30 in a couple of years will change that. So my sisters seem trapped to me in their respective ages of 22 and 20. Looking at the wedding pictures though (and Heidi and Eric do an amazing job taking these photographs) I see my baby sisters all grown up. Aunt Carol saw it when Alyse was standing up at the altar. "She's grown in the last half hour - become a woman right before our eyes". And while I know what she means, Alyse has been that woman for longer than her wedding day. She's been more of a "grown woman" for longer than I think I'd like to admit. She's still "Peasers" to me.

And Stacy? I saw a picture of her and Taylor and couldn't move past it. She's so gorgeous, and happily married to a man I'm thrilled to have as a brother. All I could think was, "Wow, she's beautiful - and so happy!". She's always been the more independent and self-sufficient in my mind. And she is so good at going after what she wants and getting it! I know that I'm proud of her; I can't imagine how Mom and Bob must feel.

I feel inclined to comment on Heidi here, because she's more of a sister than blood could ever determine. But she's not a "baby" sister to me. She's my partner in "older sister-hood". I feel like she's a teammate to keep watch over the youngsters, ever though they haven't needed that in years, if ever. Must be part of an older sibling syndrome though, as I come across a lot of eldest children who feel the same way. It's a curse, knowing my younger sisters don't need (or even want, for that matter) me to watch out over them, but still feeing the urge to do so. Heidi's been good for that. She keeps me in line, reminding me of how independent and capable Stacy and Alyse are.

So here I sit wondering that if they are so much more grown, then where am I? I look back on the past couple of years and know that I am becoming the woman I want to be. Even though it took a few "bumps" in the road to help get me there. I am happy, love my job, have amazing friends, and truly enjoy my family. How blessed can one girl be? Oh and I can't leave out Coda. What would a blog posting of mine be without my puppy being mentioned? But we won't go into her "growth". 35 lbs. when I adopted her and 75 lbs. now, I think we all can attest to her maturity.

So I will go now, knowing my sisters are amazing and life is good. Hope you enjoyed the pondering today.

Beautiful Bride

Peasers got married this past weekend! She was an absolutely beautiful bride, as well as organized! Lucky Jeff is all I have to say! And I only cried once - Bob sang during the ceremony. It even helped me forget about the 4 inch heels I was wearing. Let's face it. I'd wear them all over again to see my sister so happy again to be marrying the man she loves! I'm sure Heidi will have some pics posted soon. I'll steal from her.

Lock Out

My dog locked me out of my apartment. You know that "security deadbolt" a lot of apartments have that only lock/unlock from the inside? She hit it while I was trying to get the other lock opened at 1:30 AM after a cast party. Poor Carol and Bill got to house me for the night, and they had to saw into my door today to get me back in! Crazy Coda hadn't made a mess though! And I missed the CISD Job Fair. My principal says I have the best excuse she's ever heard. =)

Connor's 2nd BDay!

Here are a couple pics from the party yesterday! I thought I'd better post them now rather than later considering Katy was chastising me via iChat yesterday about not updating. You'll see some more pics from Liam's party (tonight!) in the next day or two as well!
Enjoy!

Gran & Connor, loving those party favors!

Connor was all about his cupcake.

Connor tore into those gifts! I think he finally got it this year. These were HIS!

Motherhood...

What does it mean when someone tells you you'll be a great mother... based on the way I "mother" my dog?

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

Tomorrow, I dance.

That's right. I will take on Soulja Boy with 15 other East teachers, and we will ROCK THE GYM! In yo face! LOL! Seriously though, the kids are going to die, it's so funny. I'm trying so hard to get it videotaped for you all. Don't worry, there will be evidence of this crazy routine.

Coda + Boxer = 110 Pounds

110 pounds. Think about it. Think about it coming straight at you, below the knee line, and as you try to move out of the way while bending your knees for hope of some stability, they hit. A witness said, "I looked and you were midair". That's right. Upper butt/lower back hit first, then my head. Two days later I have no bruises to sport (grrrr), my neck is killing me, and I can't walk around or sit without wincing. Good news? I met some nice people. And this one guys dog is named (get this) PAVLOV. How cool is THAT?!?!

I love my puppy. And she loves to run into me.

Soulja Boy

O. M. G. At our next pep rally, a group of teachers will be performing the Soulja Boy dance. That's right. Yours truly, the pastiest and dorkiest of them all will dance in front of her students, faculty, and parents in a dance that is sure to haunt her the rest of her life. I am PUMPED UP! And I'll try to get the video on YouTube, so the rest of you can enjoy it as much as my kiddos.

Check it out...

Auditions are Funny

No, I do not know why my Albuquerque pictures suddenly decided to disappear. I tried fixing it once, and will try again, but I don't know what's up.

Otherwise...

School is back and going full-blast. 9 out of 14 of my kiddos that auditioned made the Region and Honor Choirs! I am excited for them - they will sound awesome! Coda gets to try a new dog park today (after it warms up a little bit), and I get to read a lot of a book by Ruby Payne about the socioeconomic influences on the lives of my students and in education. It should prove interesting. Now if I can just find my copy of the book in my apartment... I really hope it's not at school.

Fun side notes? Made some new friends at Region auditions yesterday! Found out I am not the only one who says stupid things to their classes unintentionally (like starting at rehearsal letter F and saying "One, two, F-'n Go!"). At least I didn't call a girl a ho. =) Or make my AP leave the room crying they were laughing so hard during an evaluation because my class said (and they were supposed to) "ti-ti". Most of our auditioners were great yesterday. In fact, they all knew the music (the kids I was judging), they just didn't all sing on the right pitches. One girl made my day when she sang the entire second half of the audition up about a fourth from where she should have been. I know, I know. Poor girl. That's what I said. Then I looked at another judge and they were crying they were laughing so hard. You think we're mean, but you sit on your ass all day and listen to 55 girls sing the same 2 minute cut of 2 pieces ALL DAY and try to rank them accurately.

Alright. I'll keep trying to repost my ABQ pics!

Smash In

I can't call it a break in. To me that implies something broke. And when something breaks, you can either fix it, or it's easily replaced. Nothing about someone smashing my car window and ripping out my stereo (yes Heidi, the one from 4-5 years ago that our parents got us for Xmas for our "new" cars) was easy. That was 2 nights ago and I STILL don't have the glass vacuumed up yet. New window? Great. An auto glass company came out to my school to replace it for me, but we couldn't find an accessible outlet on the outside of the bldg. for him to plug in his portable vacuum to clean my car. And since it was pouring rain yesterday, extension cords were out of the question. That's right. I come out to go to school and think 'What is all over my passenger seat?... SHIT'. That's pretty much the thought process I had Wednesday morning. Then I called the police, the apt. complex, and school to get a sub for the morning while I spent the AM attempting to get someone to replace my window in the rain so I could drive without the hazard lights and go more than 20 MPH trying to hold a tarp in the car while keeping the rain out.

Aside: Anyone notice that I'm pissed? And depressed. Seriously. I do not understand. I don't get it and while I know there are stupid bastards out there that go and do these things (especially at the holidays according to my SRO), I DO NOT GET IT. I don't want to, honestly. What mostly bothers me is why I feel so sad about it. I'm Okay. Coda's Okay. No one is hurt. They didn't steal the valuable items, even though they defaced my car. My apartment in intact and nothing lost there. I do not like this feeling though.

Friends have told me they got upset because of a sense of loss and violation. I don't know if that's it with me. It doesn't help that my students have had performances out their wazoos this week. Field-trip Tuesday with 3 performance stops. Pep Rally performance today (that I ended up in as one of my kiddos is out sick), and 2 more gigs tomorrow, including our Winter Concert. And our fundraiser products showed up yesterday. And I had to find someone for my car. And I can't stop crying about it! Dammit!

I do count the blessings. I do look at the bright things. I do appreciate the things that ARE Okay... and better than Okay.

I do not like idiots who feel the need to gain from causing others loss.

Saturday, December 08, 2007

My calendar seems to get more and more filled up as December is continuing. Scary, but true. Holiday season = performances. The more the merrier! Right? Riiiiight. At least I'm enjoying it as are my students.

What am I really looking forward to though? Albuquerque with the family. About a week just hanging out and enjoying the company of my sisters and parents! It feels like it's been forever! The fam is going to be a welcome relief and time of enjoyment!

So what's been going on with me? Kyle's in Colorado now, I'm with Coda (yay for my puppy!), and I'm making friends! Who-hoo! Come by any time. Coda needs help getting a start on a big bone I got her. AWESOME.

This was random, and I hope you enjoyed.

Solo & Ensemble

While teachers have to spend lots of time working for their students outside of the "regular" workday, it does have it's rewards.

23 out of 24 of my students who competed in Solo & Ensemble Saturday received the highest rating of a 1. Aka Superior. Who-hoo!

Celebration aside, how difficult is it to tell the one student who got a 2 that they're the only one??? Not that you say that, but it's rather obvious. Granted, she skipped a line in her song (I was accompanying - freaky on more than one level) and I understand the judges scores. I have no argument, I just feel bad that she's IT.

Otherwise, I'm still thrilled about my other students! They excelled in every way that day, and I'm proud of them! So here's to my Broncos!

Tiger in the Complex

I pet a tiger. A real, live, 6 week old tiger in my apartment complex. This guy's son and daughter-in-law rehabilitate exotic baby animals, and he was watching their 6-week old siberian tiger. I got pictures and will post them as soon as I get them off the camera. She made a chucking noise, which was her "purring", and she was roaring! I can't wait to show you from the pictures!

OK. That's all. =)

The Mary Kay Culture

I learned a lot this weekend. I had the opportunity to fly out to Las Vegas (1st time there!) on Thursday and learn from the best in our area. The Shealy Area Advance was fantastic. I was concerned about an hour before it ended though. Everyone there kept emphasizing the feeling that Mary Kay has to have IN you for you to be in it. That you had to have a purpose for your business. I hadn't caught that bug yet. While our National was speaking to us though I figured it out.

I want to teach.

No, this does not mean that I am leaving Mary Kay or leaving my middle school (yet). I saw the women onstage this weekend and admired their enthusiasm, presence, and FUN attitudes! I felt like I was surrounded by women LIKE ME. Crazy, beautiful women who want to be the best they can be as they are - and they'll make up dances and skits and songs to perform for the rest of us just for entertainment. Do you know how badly I wanted to join in the "Dreamgirls" dance for the MK Husbands last night at the banquet??? It involved boas!!! Here are women who GET ME. Who want to be in the spotlight, but who don't focus on themselves to get there, they focus on OTHERS.

So the teaching thing.

I want to be one of the women who stand up and inspire others. I want to be there helping other women realize their potential. I want women to love themselves and to know that THEY ARE ENOUGH. What better way to do that than through lipsticks? =) I should say what more FUN way to do that than through lipsticks???

Don't freak. I'm not in a cult. I'm now part of a culture. And I'm excited.

It's Official

It's official. I'm divorced. Crazy, isn't it? And although I've been separated for so long, now that everything is signed it's almost more difficult. Maybe it's getting used to not having to struggle. Maybe it's that something that's been a part of my life for so long is gone. It's sad. It's frustrating. It's happy. It's exciting. And all of these emotions wrap themselves around me and leave me gasping at times as I'm not sure what emotion I'm feeling or when. So I keep doing what I've been doing... move forward.

School is going well. I'm really enjoying this year and my students, though frustrating at times, are really great kids. My peers are awesome not only as teachers but also as friends. My administration is a great leadership board who care about the KIDS and their TEACHERS. While that includes test scores, it's not all about test scores.

Mary Kay is going to pick up. I'm going to make it pick up. I'm ready to see some positive things come from this company for me, and I'm going to make that happen. Need a makeover? Facial? New products? I'm your gal.

So here I am. Officially single again and honestly happy about it. It's not easy, but it's getting better all the time. Yay for the Beatles. =)

On a Roll!

So there are 2 major events this week. Number 1, the first official concert of the year is Thursday! Can't wait - the students are going to sound great! Number 2, on Friday I get divorced OFFICIALLY. Hallelujah and Amen to THAT! It's been a long road. Haven't enjoyed it one bit. Now I get to move on. I'm totally going out Friday night. Any takers???

1 Signature Away

All the paperwork has been filled out and signed. I simply have to go get a few things from the house, then go to the Courthouse and have a judge sign off on it all. Planning that for next Friday. It was an EXHAUSTING day yesterday. My soon-to-be-ex was as unreasonable and inconsiderate as he usually is. And I am almost done. The light is blinding. I just need to jump into it. Thank you for the prayers yesterady - I know I was surrounded by good thoughts and prayers all afternoon/evening (7 hours, folks).

So yeah. 1 signature left. Amen to that.

Blabbing/Venting

So I know there are a lot of things happening for me this week. However, I'd really like it if I could take the "handle it as it comes" approach. I can't do anything about my mediation that's scheduled for Tuesday until, duh, Tuesday. I can't figure out a piano accompaniment for a last-minute gig scheduled for Thursday until tomorrow. I can't get the knots out of my shoulders and back until I can actually relax and get someone to help me with that (Saturday or Monday, Lisa will call me back). And I can't get my mind to calm down, relax, enjoy what I can right now, focus on some other things that need done, and calm my stomach until.... ??? It's all over? School doesn't really bother me. I know I'll find a solution for that tomorrow. Not a problem. Tuesday bothers me. That I'm unsure about the outcome. That I don't want to go to trial. That I can't afford shit right now because I have to put pennies away for my lawyer, ESPECIALLY if we're going to trial. And mostly that I'm this upset about something that I don't want to be. I'm trying very hard to distract myself from it, and it keeps gnawing away at me, expressing itself when I think I have some sort of control over it.

I know, Mom. He's controlling me again because I can't get my own emotions under control. I'm still pissed about DAD. How do you stop letting something erode away in you when there seems to be no closure? How do you bring closure to something that will probably never be closed? I don't have the time or the funds to take a year to find happiness for myself, like Elizabeth Gilbert in "Eat, Pray, Love". Great book, by the way. It gives me hope that I will be able to provide myself with some kind calm and, for lack of a better word, closure at some point in my life. I know I can be very patient, but lately that has not been a great talent of mine. I feel like I've been patient long enough.

Well that sounds familiar. I think I heard myself say that several times to myself a couple of years ago. Most memorably around July of 2006.

So that leaves me with what? Plans of action. I know dates, times, and hopefully that means that in less than 20 days I will officially be known by my maiden name again. I'll try to focus on that fact (hopefully fact). So take Coda out. See friends. Enjoy company and try to distract my brain for the next 45 hours.

Someone call me and remind me to cry Monday night. I don't want to burst into tears on Tuesday (which is likely). We all know how much I love conflict.

Lazy Dog

So the Gabriel/Gehrman family has begun a fitness challenge to last up to Christmas. Walk/Jog (or bike or play tennis at the equivalent) 7 miles each week. So long as you complete that weekly, you win! I love it. I get to take Coda out and... well... drag her up the last hill every time we do a certain route because she is apparently not capable of withstanding the Texas heat AND walking 3 miles. I'm going to have to start walking with her every other day and going on my own to get my heartrate up for the required amount of time. I want to lose 10 lbs. by Xmas. How do you get the dog to keep up with you??? She's a young'un! Just over a year with GREYHOUND in her blood! Crazy mutt. Love her though! She keeps me entertained. =)

Mediation

October 2nd at 1:00 PM. If that doesn't end it, the trial date is October 15th. Pray for the former to be successful.

Labor Day

How much do I love my family??? A whole heck of a lot! The Orenders invited me out to their lake home in Possum Kingdom for Labor Day weekend. I read more in 2 days then I had been able to read in 3 weeks. We swam, boated, jet skiied, and RELAXED! Oh yeah. And we ate a lot, too. =) Thanks to Carol and Bill for inviting me, and it's ALWAYS fun to hang with the cousins! The babies grow up so fast!!!

Katy had her friend Kelly out from Chicago - the bunkhouse was the place to be!

Connor's already taking charge of his younger cousin, Liam.

"The Beast" kills your thighs. Can I get a witness, Katy and Kelly???

Father and son are WAY TOO CUTE.

The Girls at the Lake House!

It has to be said again... I love my family!

Collin County Courthouse

I missed the 4th day of school today for a 30 minute stint in Collin County's newest courthouse up in McKinney. While I am content and, I can't think of a good word... satisfied? We'll go with it. Satisfied that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I am perturbed that this light hasn't blinded me yet. WHY is there so much conflict over reason? WHY is there NO conflict when reason is trying to be had??? There isn't any because it becomes a one-sided argument. Not even that. A one-sided attempt at discussion. I feel as though this thing that has been haunting me is STILL THERE. I want it gone. It should have been gone months ago, as Texas law says it can be. Folks, mediation is supposed to occur before Sept. 15th (that's what the order said, anyhow) and a trial has been set (if needed) for October 15th. Friends in the area, you can bet there will be a get-together that coming weekend. Be ready for celebration, because if it doesn't happen then, it had better have happened in September (how awesome would that be???). I already have students calling me by my maiden name. It has a wonderful ring to it.

The First Day

It's over. The first day of school is FINISHED! Amen to that. I have some very sweet 6th graders, awesome 8th graders, and TALKATIVE 7th graders. And my boy's choir? 19 males and hopefully still counting. I am PUMPED UP for this year! We have some awesome things planned, and if all goes as well as we're planning them we are going to have a blast of a year. 1st place ratings, here we come! Just thought you'd all like to know how the first day went. We sing and move my furniture tomorrow. =)

Rimelspach-Gupta Wedding

I know you are all interested in hearing about my friend's wedding, so here you go! Jennifer's wedding was AMAZING! I strongly suggest attending a Hindu ceremony at some point in your life - very beautiful and so much fun! And the Gupta's would definitely give the Lindsay's a run for their money out on the dance floor! Below are some pics, and more are on my Facebook page.

Jennifer and Pankaj are so beautiful together!

Seriously, Jennifer was adorned head to toe in her wedding lenga. GORGEOUS.

Pankaj rode on this fine stead for the processional while we danced in front of him with the musicians around the temple.

Speaking of dancing... =)

Jennifer and Pankaj recessing after the enchange of rings. Absolutely an amazing wedding.

Post-Op

So. I had my splints and stitch (that's right, 1 stitch) removed out of my nose today. Splints? OK. Sore to get out (they're about 1/2 in. tall and 2-3 in. long), but a relief. Stitch? I cried. I cried and I needed a couple of minutes before they took out the splints. That front part inside your nose is SENSITIVE! Mom says I need to learn more breathing techniques.

But they're out! And I can already feel a difference. YIPPEE! So thanks for the prayers and thoughts and well-wishes (and putting up with my drug-induced poetry, if you can call it poetry). Next week they finish cleaning out my sinuses and I'll be done! I'm very glad to be in the upside of recovery now. Puking and oozing (that's for you, Stacy) in Erin's bedroom was not the highlight of my stay at the Orenders. Seeing Erin bring me a cheeseburger when I could handle it WAS! And the toy? I'm playing with it, don't you worry, Erin! =)

I'll update you with more later! Ciao!

Ode to My Nose

Oh, thou great and amazing organ-thingy!
You that causes me to smell the sweet scents of roses, lilacs, and Coda's breath!
You that have caused me so much congestion and suffering (and medical bills) throughout the ages...
You are my nose!

One of the Five Senses you are truly a work of art,
And those who have studied you are awed by your amazing works.
The scents you scent,
The odors you open my eyes to,
The aromas you arouse in my brain are innumberable.

And yet you torment me, nose.

Though you are supposedly healing, I can not even smell tuna.
Though you are supposedly healing, I can not breathe through my left nostril.
Though you are supposedly healing, I am still wiping up the oozes from your olefactories.

But you ARE healing.
You ARE progressing.
You ARE becoming better, and though there is pain, it is a healing pain.

And so I ask...
Do not mock my inability to spell or use correct vocabulary words or even to create bad poetry, but rejoice with me for a better, healthier nose!

Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I'll be able to breathe...

Tomorrow! It's only a daaaaaaaaay, aaaaaaaaaaaa-waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! Yes folks, tomorrow is the big day. Surgery on my sinuses around 7:30 AM. How pumped am I? Considering I won't be able to breathe out of my nose for a week, not sing for a few weeks, but then know what it's like to actually not have an infection all the time, PRETTY DARN PUMPED UP!

And I'll look great too, because I finally did it and got professional highlights (and lowlights!!!) in my hair. Don't worry, I will post a pic. It's HOTT.

Sorry if you don't hear from me for awhile, however I'll be hopped up on drugs. Who-hoo!

Update for Stacy

This is for you, Stacy. As I sit here in Cleveland, awaiting the arrival of my luggage from DFW (long story) I decided to check out my blog. Let's see if I can tell you what's going on here... arrived, was picked up by the groom's friend, checked into the hotel, went back to the airport to pick up more people, ate lunch, and am now waiting to head back, yet again, to the airport to see if my clothes and everything else made it on the last flight from Dallas.

Coda's great - she has surpassed the 60 lbs. mark and survived a bout with allergies and eye drops.

Kyle's getting settled into Dallas and is searching for jobs as I type. How many interviews will he have, folks? We shall see! He's working hard at it though - go Kyle go!

Alright. What's happening with ya'll?? =)

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday to my favorite puppy, Coda! We went to the dog park today in celebration of her 1 year old self! She loved it. Now she's pooped out and is lying in front of the door (coolest spot in the apartment). So yes - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BABY GIRL!!!

Renee Update

THANK YOU for your prayers! Renee's surgery was completed today and as far as anyone can tell was 100% successful. I appreciate all your support - I'll let you know if anything else pops up. THANK YOU!!!

Prayer Request

Hey there, friends and fam! Just wanted to post this prayer request for my friend Renee in Minnesota. She's currently in the hospital, most likely to have surgery on her brain to fix a disformed blood vessel on Friday. Prayers and good thoughts that the procedure will go well, that the doctors are able to fix the vessel, and that Renee is feeling better. The blood vessel has begun to leak, causing horrible headaches. Thanks for your prayers! I appreciate them, as does Renee!

Toy? What Toy?

You see it. The one draped across your face! But maybe you don't notice it because you're still out of breath and paying WAY too much attention to mom as you've been playing with the laser pointer. That thing turns you into a one-minded-dog. I love it. And this picture.

Coda Update

She loves the summertime - and she gets tired out easily. How can I tell when she's tired? When she pants with her toungue hanging out the side of her mouth rather than the front. She's too cute.

Here she is taking advantage of the Texas sun...

And she graduated Beginner Training!!! What a gal.

And I can't leave this one out just because it's hilarious to me. Besides the turquoise eyes, she's rather adorable!

Yippee!!!

Congratulations to my little sister, Alyse! She and her boyfriend Jeff are now engaged to be married! I am so excited - Jeff is an awesome guy and couldn't have a better gal than lil' Peasers. You can read about there engagement at http://alyseinaustin.blogspot.com. They are way too cute.

PS: I got a MacBook this weekend! Anyone know why Blogger's entire editing bar (the one that allows you to create links, etc.) doesn't appear? I love the computer, and it'll help the new business (www.marykay.com/kgabriel), but why the disappearing bar???

Wednesday, June 06, 2007

I detest mosquitoes. IMMENSLEY. Why, you might ask? Mostly because Coda likes to run where they like to exist. And guess who they like to bite?! ME!!! I have lost count as to how many bites I have on my body. I just keep itching. And trying not to scratch.

I just wanted to fill you in.

Mary Kay

I've done it. I've signed myself over to Mary Kay Cosmetics. And you know what? I'm really excited about i! I was looking for a part-time job this summer but was dreading the thought of another retail position that worked me on their part-time hours (usually about 30-35/week - NOT what I want) and that I wouldn't be able to work a Musical Theatre camp with my friend! So now I've found the gig that will work on my time and allow me to work as much or as little as I want. Though I'll admit I'm thinking I will work some more on it - I'm liking what I see so far!

So yeah. Now that I've gone and become a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant (HAHAHA - ME a beauty consultant!!!) I'm going to ask a favor. If you want to try something, let me know. If you want to have a party (in TX, thank you) I would be really happy to do that for you because I have NO experience. You'd be training me in. Otherwise, I don't know which of you use this product or not, but if you do, my website is www.marykay.com/kgabriel. Thanks for being the patient and supportive people you are and reading my shpeel. Stacy, tell me how to spell that. =)

Oh yeah. I get to go by GABRIEL!!! Not official yet - don't get too excited. I'm already chomping at the bit.

Joke

So through the email chain of the Gehrman/Gabriel Girls there was a list of items posted that could make for good blog posts. One such suggestion was jokes! I was reminded of a time when I taught Music History...

"What's Beethoven's favorite fruit?"

"BA-NA-NA-NAAAAA!" sung to the tune of his 5th Symphony opening.

Maybe I shouldn't post jokes on my blog.

School's Out!!!

I can't believe it. I've completed my first year at East. Yeeeeee-haw! Though it hasn't really sunk in yet. I still feel like I'll be going back next week. Instead I'll be having an appraisal done on my house and trying to get my life (and apartment) back in order! Coda also gets to try out a dog park this weekend. Time to pray she comes when called. =)

So yeah. Going to enjoy the break, and if you are in my area or I am in yours, we need to get together. Hooray for Summer Vacation!!!

Update

Stacy, I get the picture. I apologize for slacking in my duties to my blog. It's only been INSANE here trying to handle 6th graders at the end of the school year. By the way... 3 MORE DAYS!!! And that includes today, which I probably shouldn't count because we teachers like to look on the bright side of life (LOL) so we figure today's over anyhow... 2 MORE DAYS!!! Then I intend to go to weddings, work a musical theatre camp in Denton, possibly sell Mary Kay (anyone want to host?), and relax by the pool. Oh yeah, and exercise my butt off. Literally. OK. Only to a point. It's a hot butt! Remember?

Coda... Ah my little 50 lbs. mutt who likes to kiss me and then bite my boob while soaring through the air... AhhhhOW. She graduates from her Beginner Training Class this weekend! I'll be sure to take pictures. Again, waiting to actually be able to post them as my computer ISN'T COMPATIBLE. I may go use someone else's.

Gabriel name change. Still hasn't happened folks. Working on it though and there is a pinpoint of light at the end of the tunnel! Another month? I'm hoping to be back to Gabriel sooner than later. Speaking of which, I love my Uncle Bill O. He has offered to go with me to Fort Worth to take care of some things. Talk about taking me under their wing! With the 'rents gone (Albuquerque) Carol and Bill have definitely extended their parenting duties to include their neice, aka ME. LOVE THEM and APPRECIATE THEM and all they've done and continue to do. We have some fabulous family, folks. "Alliteration aside" (name that movie!) I'm definitely blessed to have so many people looking out for me. I'll have to thank you all one day. Oooo... that could take more than a day.

Alrighty! Enough of an update for now Stacy? I'll be sure to get this updated more as school lets out. We're being locked out this summer for renovations. Darnit! Being forced NOT to work! Have I mentioned I love my job?

Have a great end of the school year for those of you who that affects, and it's time to hit get cleaned up. Coda woke me up early so I'm posting at 6:05 AM. Enjoy the day!

WANT vs. NEED

Buying what you WANT vs. buying what you NEED.

I NEED a pair of black flats that can be worn casually or dressed up for work and play. I kind of NEED a pair of brownish cute tennies that are casual and can be worked in. I WANTED and BOUGHT a pair of summertime sandals with 2-inch heels that are cuter than all get-out and make my feet look fabulous.

I love shoes.

Oh yeah. And I did buy the washer and dryer that I NEEDED. Don't worry, that came first.

2002 Toyota Solara Convertable

Oh how I wish I had the money to buy the car I test-drove yesterday. That's OK. I'll find the perfect car for the perfect price at the perfect time!!! So long as that time is before my car goes ka-blooey. =)

1999 is Too Old

Apparently, a 1999 computer is not the ideal machine to have working for you. Or Windows 98 being the Operating System. Guess what? It's time for a new computer. I can't even put the CD of pictures from Walgreens in and SEE THEM, let alone put them on my computer to then upload to here to you all could enjoy the fun I've had with Coda and my friends lately!

Good thing my car is still running (knock on wood).

Fun things to come? We're having a faculty-student basketball game next week and I'm the MASCOT!!! Envision me running around and dancing like a fool in a bronco outfit. I'm PUMPED. Really, I am. I'm serious.

Other exciting news? Bob has finished his stint at Deadman Hospital! He moves next weekend. I'm going to miss him! I really like having my parents close. It's convenient, but very homey. And being 30 mins. from them is fantastic. The perfect distance. Now I'll be 10 + hours from them... again. That's OK! I have a ton of family in the area and we'll have a blast! I'll just run to Bill and Carol more. They can't wait. =)

Going to get ready to take Coda out - it's an ordeal, but the training has already paid off. Walking her is much better than her walking me. =) Now if I could get all the scratches to heal...

CIAO!

Random Notes

Wheeeeeeee! It's Friday and I'm NOT AT WORK! I am working hard though - making sure my animal doesn't destroy anything at my parents just in case I'm given a 30 minute warning to book it out of here with the house looking spectacular so it'll sell. Arg. Cleaning has never been my favorite thing to do. Alyse is the only one I know who seems to enjoy it.

So here I am, reading other people's blogs and checking out used car prices. Mine is making a weird noise lately. Not a good one, either. Mom's guessing the transmission. I'm not paying for a new transmission. It's not worth it. 177,000 miles on a 13 year old car. I may be wrong (PLEASE let me be wrong), but it's time to start looking at cars more seriously.

EASTER'S HERE!!! Meaning... Katy's coming into town, Alyse and Jeff are coming into town, and I get to hang out with a bunch of family! YEAH! How excited am I? I love holidays in Texas - I don't have to travel much anymore to be around people. They come to ME! Well, to other family members and I drive 30 minutes.

Alrighty. Have a great time, and I'll get some more pics up soon!

Ciao.

Irrational Behavior

Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary describes "irrational" as such: 'lacking usual or normal mental clarity or coherence'.

Let's talk about rational behavior and thinking for a moment, shall we? I got off the phone with someone this evening who has decided they will NEVER get a divorce in their lifetime. Even if the other person wants one. Hmmm... So they want to be with someone who obviously doesn't want to be with them. Rational, or Irrational? Nevertheless I am slightly bemused at all of this considering the divorce is GOING TO HAPPEN one way or the other.

I just had to vent for a moment. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Animal Deaths

Coda likes to kill bugs. And not just the annoyingly huge mayflies or mosquitoes that populate the area around my apartment since I'm in what I like to refer to as "the swamp". No, her favorite victim is the butterfly. I feel so saddened by this! It's colorful and flits about without any real speed, so it's perfect for Coda to leap about and snap at. Sometimes the butterfly is lucky (or smart - go fly on the other side of the fence) and sometimes they're not. Like just now. Don't be stupid enough to fly right in front of my dog's nose - she'll leap up and snatch you out of the air.

Second Death. I heard this hilarious story (you'll see why it's hilarious to me in a minute) from another teacher. Apparently here's what happened... A kindergarten teacher with about 20 students keeps a bunny rabbit in her room that they occasionally let run around. Said rabbit was out and about during storytime when the teacher was in the middle of a climactic moment and was perched on top of a chair while acting out the story. The story called for the main character to fall, so the teacher jumped and landed on the floor in front of her. She did not, however, look before she leapt and landed square on the bunny. Blood, guts, instant death. And the class of 20 5 year-olds saw it all. I'm guessing therapy sessions for the next week.

As a teacher, I feel HORRIBLE for the Kindergarten teacher. I'm also amused - what else could I be? As teachers we end up in situations that call for reactions and emotions of disgust or humor. It's easier to see it in the light of the latter emotion since if we saw everything bad that happened with disgust, I'd quit teaching.

So there you have it. My blog on the death of bugs and bunnies. No pun intended.

PS: Coda just got another mosquito.

H.M.S. Pinafore

What I had to go through to have great hair for H.M.S. PInafore. Yes, I look like a mutated dog.

But then I looked GREAT! Along with the other Chorus Girls. I'm in the teal.

Obviously I'm on the left. Next is Melissa (Josephine - the lead female) who talked me into auditioning. She teaches the private voice lessons at East. Hannah (Hebe - Jeebie) is a new-found friend thanks to Melissa! I can't wait for the 3 of us to hang out more!

Hooray for fun shows with fun people! Can't wait to work with them again!

Talent

So we opened H.M.S. Pinafore last night with much success! The cast had a blast, and the audience seemed to enjoy the hilarity of it all. I must point out a small talent though that my family has discovered runs in their blood. Falling. Check out Alyse's Blog, and Katy's to see the extent to which we will draw attention to ourselves by NOT being able to stay balanced. My special moment came last night during the finale of Act 1...

So Wednesday evening while running through our final dress rehearsal my partner turns around, puts his hands on my waist, and tries to life me up without any warning given to me. I asked him what the heck he was doing, then agreed to aide in the stunt by JUMPING the next time he tried to lift someone only slightly smaller than himself. Which leads me to last night... Opening Night. The finale of Act one came, my partner turned around, I jumped. And boy! Did I get some height! It was amazing to feel taller then everyone! Then, very quickly, I was FAR shorter than them. My character shoes have NO tread on them and I landed, then continued to go down until I was flat on my back onstage. The curtain closed a little fast that evening - wisely. I was in hysterics (laughing) just trying to stay standing after 1/4 of the cast tried to help me and my partner up (I'd tripped him on my way down). Moments like this make me laugh. What else could I do??? PS: Was anyone in the fam at the opening night of The Mouse that Roared that remembers my fall there? I'm thinking of making it a tradition.

I love being a Lindsay. Have I ever mentioned that? =)

Random

Don't worry, I haven't given up on posting pictures yet. Just haven't gotten a new camera... yet. Plans are in the works for that one. Anybody REALLY like the camera they own? Suggestions? Great.

Speaking of pictures, I would have had another great shot of my butt again if I posted pics of my butt on the web. While in Colorado (which was AWESOME, by the way) I happened to have what they call a "Yard Sale". As my cousin Erin describes it (quite accurately, too) it was pole, ski, ski, pole, then Kate at Erin's feet going "MY BUTT!!!" I had fallen, but before I hit the snow my rear hit the ski bindings first. I have a bruise that could win ugly competitions! Oh, and I ended up in the ER because I thought I'd broken my hand in the same fall (just a contusion aka "big bad bruise" according to my doc). However, I did not have my cousin Katy's doctor. Check out who got to check HER out.

So my apartment is beginning to look like home rather than some random place were I sleep and eat. Yeah! Alyse and mom came over (mostly Alyse) and helped me go through some boxes and just get things put up! Hooray! If Alyse doesn't make it in nursing (which I do not forsee) she can be paid to go into people's homes and organize for them. Like the people at The Container Store.

We're going to the amateur rodeo in Ft. Worth this evening with the Barretts! How fun will that be??? And I've lived here for about 4 years and haven't been. I'm excited!

Alright. Is that enough randomness for one post? I thought so. Enjoy, and remember to send me your camera recommendations so the next time my butt is the topic of conversation and post I can show it to you all. Riiiiight.

Cousins and Colorado

Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day. The Lindsay Clan will again be welcoming another cousin into the world. Liam should be joining us sometime after 7:30 AM, CST, and Patrick and Alicia will have their 1st child! And then FRIDAY I'm booking it outta here for Colorado with Patrick's siblings to let Gran and Dollar Bill have time with their new grandson! And for Spring Break. Don't know why exactly the trip was planned, but whatever, I'm going! And I'm PUMPED UP. New cousin, new ski slopes - how lucky can one Lindsay Cousin get?

Squeaky Toys

Squeak, Squeak, Squeak. First Emma, now Coda. They love it. If it makes a sound, they want it in between their teeth squeaking about two times per second. I love making these dogs happy, but I think I'm going to go insane. Coda's new favorite trick is to get the thing squeaking (this did take her awhile - Emma showed her how to master the trick of applying just enough pressure) and then find me and squeak it in front of me. She's behind me right now, squeaking the squeaker out of the stuffed toy mailman I bought her. Anyone remember that I WAS a mailman once-upon-a-summer? =)

And yes, I will bump up a camera on the priority list of purchases. It seems there is a running theme to the comments I'm receiving. =)

Sidenote: Emma's getting annoyed with the squeaking now too - HA! Now she knows what it feels like!!!

I can SIT DOWN

I'm getting furniture! There WILL be a couch now if you want to visit. And if YOU don't fit on it, I do. So HA! Come see me in Texas! Coda is so excited. =)

I've Moved! Again...?

Yet again, I have moved out of my parents house. Yee-haw! My apartment is fabulous, and I am 10 minutes from work! How excited am I??? However, I'm back at my parents this weekend... dogsitting. I love Emma and Coda. I love Emma and Coda. I'll just keep saying that. It's true, it's just the 2 of them together can be rather taxing. ANYHOW. I will post pictures soon, but seeing as how I don't have a camera OR the internet at my place it might take awhile. Sorry folks. But you can come and see it in person now! Help me get rid of my boxes!

Bright Eyes

Does THIS look like the face of a criminal?

How about this? Coda & Emma enjoying pig ears - butt to butt.

According to the man of the house, we need to keep a "Property Destruction Count" for my puppy. As seen above, a golf hat has been made holy. Other items? An antique pipe holder, children's book, and various shoes have been found with teeth marks. Interesting. I move out of my parents house on Tuesday. With Coda. =)

COLTS WIN!!!! YEAH INDY!

Dakota - no, not the state

I GOT A PUPPY! She's 7 mos. old and I've named her Dakota, after the county in MN where I grew up. We call her Coda for short (musical term for those who didn't know that), and she is ADORABLE! Very friendly - I like to call her my cuddlebug. She's all about snuggling up and giving kisses. And chewing her rawhide to smitherings. WOW that dog can chew!

Dakota Gabriel! I like it.

One VERY excited new mom! That sounds weird, doesn't it?

Which end is which? She's good at camouflage.

Check out those cute ears! I'm in love.

Alright! There's Coda! I'm sure I'll have more pics later. She does some interesting things... like picking up leaves then spitting them out. Or sticking half her back leg in her mouth. I was amazed at her talent! She gets it from her mom. =)

Police Are Friendly

So I've discovered the local police are very helpful and friendly people. I was house-sitting for my parents and their alarm went off this morning. Did I have the code? Nope. Bob told me what to do if the pool went crazy, but not the alarm! And there's the issue of WHY the alarm was going off - what was happening? Was someone trying to break in? Was there a power failure? Was the alarm screwed up? Emma wasn't acting all nervous or excited - just intrigued by the alarm. So off I set in my robe and just-styled hair and called 9-1-1. The police officer was very friendly and helped me to locate the alarm booklet after explaining the power had gone out in the neighborhood and I'd woken my aunt and parents up in Mexico for the code - which they didn't know. Amazingly through it all the officer didn't think I was too crazy (I hope) and I made it to school 2 minutes before the bell. I think that's too much excitement for the start of the semester, don't you?

Excitement I Have Never Known

It's amazing. For the first time in my life, I have found it. I thought that coming to Dallas - a very cosmopolitan city, might I add - I would have found her sooner, but it's taken me 4 years. I must admit though, it was worth the wait to find the one I will trust over and over again. I have... a HAIR STYLIST! And I will continue to seek out their skillful help EVERY time I need a trim, cut, style - WHATEVER. Don't you love what she's done for me? Do you see how my hair is not flat against my head??? That's called BODY. I am so very excited!

Future Home...

I've found an apartment to live in! It's within 10 minutes of my school and 30 from Mom and Bobbert. Awesome amenities and the complex is next door to one of my best friends here, Amanda! Well, OK, the next apartment compound over. But STILL a lot closer than I've lived to friends in a long time. =) I am so excited, and when I move in the 2nd week of February, you're all invited to stay at my place - so long as you appreciate a spot on a couch or floor, or you don't mind sharing a bed with someone who kicks.

Hooray for NEW BEGINNINGS!!!

Minnesota Surprise!

It was Friday, December 22nd, and my mom, Bob, Alyse, and Jeff were anxiously awaiting the arrival or our sisters Heidi and Stacy at Christos in St. Paul. The latter had no clue we were there... until we sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" from the balcony to their table below. THAT's a good feeling.

Needless to say we had a blast on our holiday trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. It was fantastic to see everyone again and I had a great time! The 15 and a half hour car ride there with 5 grown adults wasn't so bad either (thank you, Lunesta). On the way back? Little more rough, but there were only 3 of us in the car so I couldn't just close my eyes and disappear. Best quote of the trip? Stacy, after playing her first game of Risk... "War - I'm into it now".

We also got to see cousins Steve and Mary Ann on the way home in Iowa. THAT was interesting. Just a warning to you all, but Steve has decided that when he's 89 and senile he's going to be as stubborn as a mule and do whatever the hell he wants. Josh, you may want to live far, far away.

We arrived back in TX to find warmer weather and our beds, which we promptly fell asleep in around 8:30 Wednesday morning. Hooray for roadtrips! I hope you all had as enjoyable a holiday as I had, and enough rest as well! Merry Christmas!

Steroid Shots

With my lovely self being prone to sinus infections (I know that's not too much personal information for you all now, is it? Did you READ "Bright Blue Panties Girl"???) I've had a couple of steroid shots in my rear. Today's hurt. Does anybody else's nurse rub it in? HOLY MOLY that hurts worse than the shot! And you feel so... exposed.

Two rear end stories in one week folks... aren't you lucky? =)

Bright Blue Panties Girl

I've decided I've met my quota on "interesting" things happening to me at school this year. A kid getting a small concussion in my class was #1 and I thought enough for the year. Alas, I was wrong.

I split my jeans Friday while on a field trip with the choir and band. And not just any small tear. We're talking top o' the bottom to top o' the thigh. Did I notice? Nope. Did anyone else? Thank goodness NO (I am truly thankful for my long black coat right now). So when did I realize my left cheek was exposed? When I sat down on the bus and felt cold plastic on my thigh. Of COURSE I still had 1 class to teach upon returning to school and of COURSE I HAD to tell and show my friends at school - it's just one of those things you don't believe until you see. I'm not sure I like my new nickname though... "Bright Blue Panty Girl." Katy O., while they may not have seen the cuteness of the panties, I am happy I was wearing panties and I'm not known as the bare-butt girl. I guess that saves my reputation? Maybe? We'll find out at the "unofficial" faculty party tonight.
